Flu Vaccination by injection, commonly known as the ‘Flu Jab’ is available every year on the NHS to protect adults and some children at risk of flu and its complications.

Flu, although not pleasant, will clear up within a week or so provided you are otherwise in good health. However, flu can be more severe in certain people such as:
• The over 65’s
• Pregnant women
• Adults and children with long-term heart or respiratory disease or another health condition
• Adults and children with weakened immune systems

If you or someone you know are within these risk groups it is advisable to have a flu vaccine every year for added protection, as there is a greater likelihood to develop potentially serious complications which are linked to flu such as pneumonia.

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS as an annual injection to:
• adults over the age of 18 at risk of flu (including everyone over 65)
• children aged six months to two years at risk of flu

For young children a nasal spray vaccination can be used rather than a jab.

If you would still like a flu vaccine but are not eligible for the service on the NHS then we can still offer a vaccination service to you after a consultation to see if it would be suitable for you. The fee for a private flu vaccination is £12.
